Topic: Why "The Talk" Matters
Overview: The Talk is a virtual learning session created following the murder of George Floyd who died on May 25, 2020. This discussion gives voice to the witnesses and survivors of the atrocity. Participants leave the session with an enhanced understanding of race relations in America.
This month's speaker is: Phillippa Moss
Phillippa Lewis Moss is an accomplished public sector leader and consultant with a deep commitment to civic engagement, equity, and innovation. A native of Oakland, California, she holds degrees in Political Science from UC Irvine, a Master’s in Public Administration from USC, and a Master’s in Conflict Management from Kennesaw State University. Her professional journey spans education, state government, and local leadership, currently serving as the Gainesville-Hall County Community Services Director. She also leads True North Strategists of Georgia, a consultancy specializing in nonprofit program design, facilitation, and organizational change. A registered mediator with the Georgia Commission on Dispute Resolution, Ms. Moss is an active contributor to her community, serving on boards and committees that address aging, public health, economic development, and family services. Her service includes roles with the Gainesville-Hall County Community Council on Aging, United Way’s One Hall Initiative, Northeast Georgia Health System, Jackson EMC Foundation and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. Ms Moss. was honored in 2022 by the Boy Scouts of Northeast Georgia with the Distinguished Citizen Award. In 2024 she was named Woman of the Year by the Rotary Club of Gainesville. Ms. Moss lives in Suwanee with her husband and son.
